Patch list for CATMSFT and CATPCPI CP/M Apple-Cat II modem programs
I have decided not to include the source files, but many of the operating
parameters and features of the programs can be changed by changing bytes
with DDT or EDFILE (Edfile is definitely easier!).
This is an edited version of the .PRN file which resulted from the
assembly of the front end module of the program.  The addresses are
the same for both the Softcard and PCPI versions.
Here is a quick example of how you would use DDT to change an
operating parameter.  Lets say you decided you could really use
that extra two k of buffer, so you want to tell the program not
to save the CCP but to warm boot instead (which frees up the memory).
Looking at the table you would find that the byte SAVCCP is located
010F in memory.  It is set to FF to indicate that saving the ccp is
desired. To make the change (IMPORTANT: do this on a COPY so that
you can go back if you mess it up!) you would bring the program in
with DDT thus:
(some numbers will appear, which you don't need to worry about.  If
you get a ? that means that DDT could not find the file.)
to change the byte, use the S command (for Set bytes) and type:
DDT responds with
010F  FF  (the cursor remains to the right of the byte waiting for
          you to change the value or hit return).
Type in a zero and hit return.  DDT will respond with the
next byte in memory to be changed.  Simply type a period to
exit the S mode (and a 'return').
Type control-C to exit ddt.  Now you want to save your
modified file back to disk.  The standard command is
SAVE 85 CATPCPI.COM  (for the applicard version)
SAVE 75 CATMSFT.COM (for the softcard version).
That's all there is to it.  Good Luck!
(P.S.:  If anyone really wants to play with the source code, I can supply it.
It is not possible to change the slot of the apple-cat from slot two without
re-assembling.  Since 99.9% of the Apple world runs their modems in slot two,
the best solution is just to move it over.  If there is some reason you cannot
do this, contact me and I will assemble you a version for the slot you need,
or provide you with the source if thats appropriate.  At this point, this
program must be assembled and Linked with the Assembly Language Development
System for the Apple II from Microsoft.  (I can provide the patches to make
the assembler work with the Applicard, provided you do own the software.))
